A great success!

Previous: Wendy the Feral

It turns out that Wendy wanted to be friendly. She’s now a housecat and is almost ready for adoption. She enjoys pets, play, food, and lording over us. She’s still a little skittish but we’re working on that. She LOVES other cats!

How’d she get here? She wanted it! While crated, her meows for food slowly turned into meows for attention. She enjoyed being talked to but not stared at or poked. After a few weeks of hand-feeding her treats I gained enough trust to start touching her. Then, with time, petting her. After another few weeks of multiple pet sessions per day she became downright sociable.

We moved her crate to a quiet room and simply left the door open. This allowed her to explore, but still hide out in her safe space whenever needed. Over the next few weeks she slowly explored the house. She would occasionally get spooked and we would have to put her back in her crate, but she eventually got used to freedom.

At this point the crate is put away. She wanders the house doing as she pleases. She sleeps on the bed every night attacking feet and anything that moves. We’re still working on her manners.

If you liked Wendy’s story please find and help a local rescue! The smaller independent rescues are always short on volunteers and funding. These rescues tend to be 100% volunteer operated so every cent can go to helping the animals. Volunteering at a rescue is a rewarding experience, you get to pet all the cats and dogs you want!
